Peer Review Strategy

Our peer-review process is elicited when making external grants via a network of scientific advisors. ME Solutions’ advisors are experts in their chosen field and committed to the highest quality of research practice. These independent scientists and practitioners review each grant application in terms of its scientific merit, value for money, relevance to the field and timescale. Once a project is complete, the peer-review process may also be used to evaluate the finished research and feed back to ME Solutions and the wider ME community. This auditing process allows us to maintain confidence in our chosen research programmes and ensures that specific research aims are met.

Research Strategy
M.E. Solutions is dedicated to finding a breakthrough in the treatment of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis and to achieve this we are focused on the funding of biomedical research. Unique to our approach is the integration of treatment and care, therefore funding applications that demonstrate this will take precedence.

Collaborative approaches are also viewed by ME Solutions as a priority; therefore applications that include diverse medical disciplines will be viewed as more favourable than those that are based upon a single field.

The inclusion of individuals and groups that have often been excluded from research programmes is also central to our funding strategy. Proposal that include the chronically bed-bound, house-bound and ethnic minorities are preferred.

To ensure the above aspects are met, ME Solutions evaluates each funding application in terms of:

  • Relevance to the underlying processes and/or treatment of ME.
  • Quality, both regarding the research methodology and underlying theoretical background
  • Filling the gaps in existing evidence and knowledge
  • Other means of support (for example, the applicant’s university, institution or the NHS). Applications that can demonstrate a sustainable approach to their research protocols are more likely to secure funding from us

All applications will be considered within our peer-review procedure, timescale of which will be given to applications individually.
